We will take hot and dry
Sabot Superintendent Ben Longest picked the right day to get married to his new bride Nikki last Friday. A cool sunny day let the two tie the knot and then head west to Primland for their honeymoon. Back to reality on Monday buddy!
It has been hot and dry on our side of the state this week which has made for some pretty firm fairways out there. Night time soil temps are still in the mid-60's so the rough is still a ways from waking up.
The Manakin greens are getting close to fully healed. The fairways and approaches have great color for May, and that really goes for both courses!
We had a few things on our Monday outing list this week to get done. The guys dug a well water line in for a new shoe cleaner for the clay tennis courts.
When you push down on the black stick water jets will clean off the bottom of your shoes. We may have to put one of these in at the new shop!
With the outside of the new pool kitchen pretty much done we have been working to reconnect and install new irrigation here near the play ground. We have about 6 zones that were cut off during construction that we have to get back to working order.
The Sabot crew dug in the temporary drain pipe that captures and directs water from the pool deck. Having this pipe installed should help keep the fitness parking lot from freezing over in the winter.
Pickleball is dragging along. The fence guys are close to being finished and there are a few more light poles to go up. The paint hasn't moved since the fence guys wanted to get done this week. Painting should take place all next week but as we said before there is no "official" opening date until that paint starts hitting the pavement. We are happy that all of our plant material is in the ground already though and we will be ecstatic to get these contractors move on to someone else's property!
Heads up for next week as we begin solid tine aerating the Sabot fairways and then spreading compost in the rough on both courses. We have been composting the rough for a number of years now and continue to see a more consistent turf that uses less and less water while holding up much better to off season cart traffic. The solid tine aeration is the only holes we will punch in these fairways all year and will go basically unnoticed. We will water in the compost as best as possible after it goes down. Hold your nose and keep it in the fairway next week!
