We deserved that week of weather! Back to normal next week

It is easy to overlook work done in the past but after a soaking week of rain last week we had carts off the path on all 36 holes on Tuesday this week. The only way this happens is with diligent drainage and tree work, two tasks that will never end!

The Sabot team has starting "relocating" trees in the form of wood chips in the beds around the course.

We dried up enough Tuesday to put the final roll out on the Manakin irrigation project. There will be some tweaking here and there as we start running and checking heads but this project is 99% finished.

Joe and the guys go after some drainage on 7 white tee on Monday. This tee was slow to drain after heavy rains so some additional drainage hooked in to the existing pipe should alleviate that problem. Next on the list is 15 blue tee and we'll look to drain a spring on 13 Sabot fairway next week.

The deep tine machine finally made its way around the Sabot early in the week. This is a job we usually like to do in early January, it was just too soft to venture out. These solid tines were going down about 7 inches which will give our bentgrass roots a nice airway for root growth as they begin to wake up.

The Sabot greens will receive their spring core aeration on Monday and Tuesday next week. 1/4" tines will be used on 1.5" spacing and then filled with dried topdressing sand. The small holes will fill in quickly and the Pure Eclipse will be ready for the season.

Back on the Manakin, Sloan and the guys finished digging out the green side bunkers on 15.

3 trucks of permeable concrete ran in succession Thursday morning starting at 8am. All three bunkers were covered by lunch and will be filled up with sand over the next few days.

Normal concrete was poured earlier in the week for the Facilities Maintenance building. They are ready to start framing here.

The foundation wall and plumbing are in for our breakroom building and the slab will be poured next week. The guys are starting to get excited now as they see some real bathrooms being formed and their indoor eating area space about double.

Our 1500 bales of pine straw showed up this week from Georgia. These bales are packed in tight into the 52 foot long trailer and all have to unloaded by hand.

Mission accomplished. The team always enjoys a quick project that takes all hands on deck!

The next course of gravel is being pushed out on to the pickleball area this week by the tennis builders. We hope to see the paving crew out early next week!

The bermuda is greening up thanks to all the sun this week and moisture in the ground. The temperatures moderate back out next week but nothing will stop the days from getting longer and the sun from going higher in the sky. The 2024 season is upon us!
