Welcome to November
The cold weather is here finally after some glorious temperatures last week. The frosts this week will shock the green color out of the bermuda and continue to drop leaves off the trees. Our bunker renovations for fiscal year 2024 have started on Manakin #4. All the sand is removed, the floor is lowered a bit and new drainage is installed. The capillary concrete is set for next week and we hope to have #4 buttoned up for next weekend. Work will move ahead to #6 as well this week.
The old tennis proshop was demolished this week since we had that permit in hand already. We are still waiting on the ground disturbance permit in order to start grading the site.
This 12" slab of concrete is going to take some work to remove. All of these preparations are being done in house which come at a significant savings to the club.
New 7' tall Green giant Arborvitaes were installed along the clay courts this week by our service road and Manakin 17. This screening has been a long time coming. The trees will grow quickly at a pace of 1-2 feet per year.
The cedar trees along the other bank of clay courts have also been removed this week. They were overgrown and had thinned out underneath which meant there was limited screening for tennis play. The needles also just drop into the soft clay all winter making for tough spring conditions. These stumps will be removed with the large excavator that is being rented for pickleball and new green giants are here at the shop waiting to be installed.
The weather will turn a little warmer for the weekend but we are deep into some fall temperatures now!
