Perfect weather for golf and bunker work

Here we are in Mid-November and all of the fairways still have a pretty decent green color. Looking back at pictures from last year however it seems that we are almost exactly in the same position color wise. The weather has been dry and beautiful this week even though the leaves can make things interesting at times.

November 15th, 2022

The Sabot greens have had a great year and continue to roll nicely into the fall. The greens were again topdressed this week and lightly brushed. With little growth happening it takes a few days for the sand to work in. Some rain is finally on tap for next week which may soften things up a little.

Bunker work has been the focus of the week on Manakin. We crossed over the 200 ton mark of sand installed. The crew started off by finishing off #4 on Monday.

The greenside bunker on 6 and this fairway bunker on 6 received its Capillary concrete on Wednesday afternoon. This week was tough with the concrete scheduling as we were only able to get a few afternoon loads in.

6 green all finished up.

The right side fairway bunker will be back in play for tomorrow as well. Getting the sand depths correct takes plenty of time. Each bunker is probed constantly for depth, then tamped in, watered and tamped again before its raked out a few times and put into play.

The big fairway bunker left of 6 is being filled with capillary concrete now. 3 concrete trucks are scheduled for this afternoon and should spill into the bunkers on 7 green. We have trucks scheduled for Monday that will hopefully reach all the way to 12 green after 7 is finished.

The right bunker on 12 is being prepped now for concrete. The floor of this bunker, like most of the rest, is lowered a few inches to make room for the concrete as well as to try and encourage the ball to roll down off the edges and towards the middle a little more. The weather looks to change after Thanksgiving so we may pause a bit on bunker work after 12. The focus may shift to irrigation work on the Manakin and if the county ever gets their stuff together we will be prepping the Pickleball area but we still have had no luck with the permit there yet.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving and get ready for plenty more improvements in December!
