Firming up for the Valentine but storms on the way

If you aren't following the Valentine on Instagram then you are missing out on some great content about our facility! Every day they are adding more content to showcase our club for this weekend's event.

The golf courses are ready to go and have been enjoying a break from the rain the past two weeks. The weather has been great for bermudagrass and not as great for bentgrass. We are balancing that and hope to present the best facility possible for the players this weekend.

It is probably easy to forget about the new irrigation system on the Sabot but it was done wonders this year as far as raising turf quality. Right now for example we can turn the water off to the fairways to let them dry out but still keep the rough healthy and growing. So many of the fairways lay lower than the rough on the Sabot so having separate sprinklers that can water each area a different amount goes a long way to keeping the playing experience elevated.

The team has spent plenty of time in the bunkers this past week. Checking depths and making sure all the contours are smooth takes time in each bunker. Constant golf play along with wind and rain moves the sand around and we have tried to take some extra time to keep these bunkers more consistent.

The guys have also topped off all the divots and edged all the sprinklers, tee plaques and drain basins this week.

Grant has the emblems dialed in on 17 Manakin. Hopefully we can dodge some of these thunderstorms and have a smooth event!

Don't forget that next week we will have the Sabot closed for three days for fairway verticutting and greens aeration. This is the latest we have aerated the fairways on Sabot but it should match up well with the greens aeration that will set up an uninterrupted fall season. The greens will be core aerated with the smaller 1/4" tines and topdressed light to medium afterwards. Everything should be plenty playable for Labor Day weekend!
