August comes in gently!
The drop in humidity as well as temperatures in comparison to last week was a very welcome change this week! We were able to dust the greens with sand on Monday to help firm them up a bit as well as help ballmarks heal over. The greens are in great shape heading into August but please remember to keep finding and fixing your ballmarks!
Also on Monday we went after our herbicide wash scars on 3 and 16 greens and a small spot on the back of 5 Sabot. Some beautiful Pure Eclipse bentgrass was stripped up from the Sabot putting green and quickly laid down on the impacted areas.
The new sod blends in nicely and should start rooting in this weekend. Please try to avoid walking on these areas and we will continue to keep the pins out of the way for another two weeks or so.
The putting green was put back together with sod from Collins Wharf sod farm which is who originally grew our Pure Eclipse. While not exactly the same, this sod should will also blend in relatively quickly.
The Manakin squad was also piecing bricks together but with no concern about root growth.
The older loose flagstone was pulled up here at the crossover and new pavers were installed.
With the greens buttoned up the Sabot guys continued to work on smaller wear spots around the course. This area around 6 green tee has been on the list for a while and was finally patched up with Latitude36 sod from the nursery on 3.
It has been a good few weeks for warm season plant growth! Let's hope this rain that is on the why fills up the lakes a bit and we will finish summer strong!
