A February Miracle - record temps and we have dried out!

The sun is coming up earlier and earlier! We will gain a full half hour of sunlight in the morning this month. The new greens on the Sabot back nine received their first aeration Thursday morning in front of the small heat wave.

These tiny 1/8" cores were popped out of the sod and then the greens were rolled smooth again. We have been able to keep plenty of sand on them this winter which also aids in getting the sod seams healed up. These greens will be aerated again with the front nine with 1/4" tines on March 20 and 21. Our agronomic schedule is now up on the Blog pages section or just click here.

It was amazing to finally have an entire week without rain. The Sabot team put in another large drainage system in the middle of two fairway this week.

This fairway is probably our worst shaped fairway in that it collects water from both sides. This french drain will compliment the one we put in previously a little further from the green. This area was still relatively saturated when doing the work so it was a mess just like the other drains we have done this winter. It is drying quickly though and should help wick water for a long time to come.

You can see some green bermuda trying to pop up here and there on south facing areas. We have had some Poa pop through this month but nothing too concerning considering the amounts of rain we have received that degrade our pre-emerge more quickly. We are trying to hold off a few more weeks for our next pre-emerge application. Last year we went out in February with our Dimension and it set the Latitude back about 2-3 weeks. If we can survive until mid-March we should end up with a greener golf course a little faster.

The irrigation guys have moved on to 12 green. To say they have enjoyed this sunny and dry week would be an understatement!

Work continues on 16 approach. We have the bunker just about edged out and then the approach got a few tweaks since the soil dried out some more and was nice and workable.

Tree work continued on the Sabot this week. The smaller pines and hollies were removed from behind 1 green, opening up the view some more and allowing for more air to move all the way across that green. The left side of 16 Sabot also got a nice haircut, putting more sun on that fairway in the morning.

The patio is moving along nicely. Our guys excavated out the area round the ice and water machine this week to allow for expansion of the flagstone all the way to the scoreboard. The curb was arduously removed and we also nicked the internet cable which is always a good time. With the curb gone we will have more room for cart traffic here and much easier access to the Tavern and the water machine.

Spring is on the way!
