Short week, Fall in bound

Fall certainly doesn't happen over night! We haven't seen many low temperatures below 70 this week so the bermuda is still growing happily, despite the lower and lower sun angle. A few scattered showers came through on Wednesday to give the irrigation system a break and overall cooler temps are on the way.

The new greens on the Sabot are figuring out how to grow in the armpit of American as opposed to a wide open farm field. Mechanical damage around the edges from our mowers going over small imperfections in the sod is easy to see on some of our most shaded and air restricted holes like 5 and 9. We poked some tiny holes and added seed and some topdressing to these areas. Continued aerations and rollings will help smooth these greens out as they evolve into their new growth chambers.

More fun on the front nine of the Sabot as the starter controls for our pump for 5 stream lasted all of two days before setting itself on fire. Not sure what happened yet but we are back to only relying on Mother Nature to send water down that stream again for a bit.

Grant finished up his drainage project that was helping divert water from behind the cart barn. The old existing drain was clogged up here by 10 Manakin tee and no amount of water pressure was breaking anything loose inside this concrete pipe.

Luckily we had a newer drain pipe crossing the path of the old concrete pipe so Grant just hooked in there. Water now should be able to be caught from the roof of the cart barn and travel all the way to the pond on 18 Sabot via the driving range.

The Manakin guys continue to repair irrigation heads in random areas across the course. Many of the signal wires have become worn and are not passing voltage to the head so it can turn on. It is very hard to diagnose a wire break so close to the head but the guys are getting it done and Manakin looks amazing.

Carlos and Dunstano also continue to make it happen with keeping our equipment fleet on line. Carlos welded the majority of the hopper of our debris sweeper back together this week.

We hope everyone was able to enjoy the fireworks on Sunday, bring on the fall!
