Another Tournament Week in the Books
Usually, this post is a sign that the week is coming to an end. This week, however, we still have two more big days to get through the week with Member-Member.
It was a short, condensed week coming off the holiday, the End of Summer event, and fireworks, but the crew had plenty to accomplish to get both courses ready for another big tournament week.
Tuesday was a closed day, which gave us a great opportunity to get a lot of much-needed spraying done. On Monday alone, we covered all 100 acres of short grass along with 39 greens. These new sprayers have been a game changer for our spray applications! They will be getting a serious workout over the next several weeks as we move into our fall application season. Winter Poa pre-emergent, spring dead spot, take-all root rot, and fall armyworm applications are all on the schedule over the next 4–6 weeks.
The golf courses are finally starting to firm up, which is a welcome sight after a pretty wet stretch. Hopefully, we can finally break our recent streak of tournament rain events!
The greens are also starting to pick up some speed thanks to more aggressive mowing practices and more frequent rolling. Now that the temperatures have moderated and nighttime lows are falling into the 60s — and even dipping into the high 50s — we can start getting a little more aggressive with our greens maintenance.
And that means one thing...
The fans should be coming out soon!
I can't wait to put those things up for a long winter's nap.
We also took some time to address some potholes on both courses this week.
The courses are shining once again for another tournament week, and the crew is really grinding through some early 5:00 a.m. starts to get everything ready for those 9:00 a.m. shotguns. I think there will be some very happy campers when those 5:00 a.m. start times finally retire for the fall and winter after Member-Member!
Once the shotgun goes off, we sit down and have breakfast together with the entire staff. Then, it's time to spread out and tackle some of the "non-golf" areas throughout the property. It's a great way to use these busy tournament days to still make progress on the rest of the campus.
Another great week in the books, and we're almost to the finish line.
