Warm this week, cold the next

The bermuda is attempting a wake up thanks to a little bit of rain and some 80 degree temps. Cooler weather and some frost is in the forecast for next week however so the mowers are still in a holding pattern for the time being. No matter what the weather does, it is nice to see some green color out there!

We are getting closer and closer to completing our bunker renovations. Another two and a half trucks of concrete were poured into the bunkers on 14 and the back bunker on 16 on Monday afternoon. These projects put stress not just on the staff but also on the equipment, the cartpaths and the surrounding turf. We are excited to be close to finishing!

This week we had 9 seasonal staff return from prior years and hired just 1 new seasonal staff member. You can see the relief in the full time staffs eyes as the fresh muscles jump in to move concrete around and start to help clean up from the winter. Having so many returning staff is a major benefit for our department.

New sand is being placed in 14 and the rear bunker on 16 this week. We will start replacing some top layers of sand in "older" bunkers in the coming weeks.

And here it is, the 103rd bunker and final one to be rebuilt on the property. This 5 year project will finish a year ahead of schedule and under budget despite sand costs more the doubling over the past two years. This bunker on 16 will be shrunk slightly to allow for better ingress and egress to the green. You can even see in this picture how the walk on/off gets beat up all winter from golfer traffic. We hope to have some sand in this bunker Friday next week!

A new pump for 5 Sabot stream has been put back in the water and the stream is running again. The old pump looked to have a wiring problem that hopefully will be covered under warranty and become a back up pump. We are getting close to having some decent looking golf courses again, enjoy the warm weather while it lasts!
