Sunny and a little chilly

The week started off extremely saturated with a "beautiful" snow sitting on top of 2.7" of rain from Sunday night and early Monday morning. We stuck with our plan of starting to wire up around 10 green though and kept on moving.

There are only so many boring pictures you can take of digging 70 holes in a week and then filling them back in with a new wire path. The guys are out here grinding away and making it happen. The sun has been out all week now and if it is any consolation the temperatures are perfect for some serious manual labor. We knocked out 80 more heads this week which leaves just 462 left to go! Out of 67 heads on #10, 22 of them did not work because of previous wiring issues. Finding all these heads and getting them wired up to the new system is extremely gratifying.

We had to cross the power wires for #10 green fan 4 times this week. The fan gets its power from behind 18 green.

Starting at the green and working towards the tee has helped reduce the impact on golf play this week. When we have the tees up in the fairway on a par 4 a single stroke can be added to your score in order to put a proper score in the computer. (Or don't, it doesn't really matter to us!) Here is the plow connecting the wire path from 9 over to 10.

The separate wire path for holes 1-4 is across the cartpath on #10 and will wait here in a splice box in the pine straw until next year. If you remember from last week this wire runs all the way back to our office and connects to the irrigation computer.

Managing the rest of the golf course has been tricky this week with 25 degree temperatures at night. The greens begin to thaw out around 10:30am which puts our mowers out in golf play usually. We are getting the greens mowed this afternoon and will try to roll at some point this weekend if the greens stay thawed. The bunkers are also quick to freeze and stay frozen through the day especially in the shade. We will do what we can as the sun allows, welcome to winter golf!

An update on the slowest project we have ever been a part of: The permit has been secured to start grading here at Pickle/Paddle. We are waiting on the engineers to get our pre-construction meeting scheduled with the county inspector so things can start moving. The timing of this is still up in the air but we hope to see some work being done here next week.
