Still no frost! More rain tomorrow?

One place that is not worried about the first frost of the season is Riverbend Golf and Country Club in Great Falls Virginia. We took a foursome up to compete in the 23rd Stewards of the Chesapeake event this past Monday and enjoyed perfect conditions on a fair but very challenging set up. It is always great to get out and see other properties, especially ones as beautiful as Riverbend.

Back home the bermuda is still pretty green and even the bentgrass has slowed down due to the short day lengths. The greens are rolling smoothly and more than ready for todays Senior Member Member.

Bunker rakes can now be placed OUTSIDE the sand for the off season. We will toss them back in when the grass starts growing again so that they are out of the way for the mowers.

The Sabot crew spruced up a few bunkers this week with some bunker sand that was left over at the shop for the season. The top inch or so of these older bunkers gets contaminated with the 40 inches of rain we get each year so it can be skimmed off and then topped up with new sand. Look for bunker renovations to being again on Manakin in November.

We also found a little time to get the lift on property and do some tree pruning. We took care of a few problem limbs that would catch some wayward shots (mainly mine here on 17) and also elevated some canopies to help improve the health of some other trees. Plenty more to do this winter.

The growth cover came off 7 blue tee Sabot this week and it looks great. We will mow it a few times and topdress with sand so that it is ready for play next week.

The Senior Tour is down the street this week and we have two of our managers helping each morning. It is great for them to see how these big time events are set up and how many people it takes to make sure all the details are in place for the best old guy players in the world!

We are still waiting on the county to award our ground disturbance for the pickle and paddle courts. Obviously we thought that process was going to be faster but here we are. Things will progress quickly once the permit lands!
