Drainage, trees and bunkers; your winter theme

With such pleasant weather the holiday's are coming up fast. The team continues to churn out projects as we head towards the end of the month. The deep tine aerators sped across the greens at .9 mph early this week. Half inch diameter tines went about 8 inches down into the profile. These holes help create more air space for root growth and water infiltration. The greens were rolled twice this week and then mowed so ball roll now is not impacted.

The tee surround on 3 black tee and the surround for the new black tee on 5 Sabot we sodded with zoysia last Friday. This will most likely be the last bit of sod from a sod farm for a while as we enter the depths of winter.

The biggest project for the week was installing more drainage around 16 Sabot tees. This area is nasty old gray clay that water will never move through. Another 400 feet of drain pipe was laid in and then topped off with gravel and sand.

The new greens on the front of the Sabot are looking great. Rooting has been impressive, with some roots shooting 4-5 inches down already. We'll need some early spring top growth in order to eat up some topdressing so the surfaces can smooth out and we can drop the height of cut down.

The boring contractor was out Thursday to run our new HDPE pipe under the road from 2 to 3 Sabot and also here behind 12 green. Having them do both shots means we won't have to bring them back out next year.

The boring machine drills a hole through the earth, under the road, and then pops out on the other side. A coupler is used to then attach onto the pipe and the pipe is pulled back through the hole. Pretty simple with the right equipment!

The capillary concrete showed on Thursday as well. We get 9 yards of concrete per truck which equals about 15 progator loads and covers 1,400 square feet.

All three greenside bunkers on 9 were covered with the permeable concrete. This means we will basically never see the sand wash out here again, see any bunker liner sticking up or any drainage gravel coming to the surface. New white sand from the lower parking lot will be brought up here to 9 in the morning and you should have a few playable bunkers here for the weekend!

Thanks to all you Blog readers for another incredible year! The support our membership shows for our team is unmatched and we are excited for another season of improvements. Enjoy the holidays and we will see you in the New Year!
