Trying to dry out but the cold is still here

The weather really has not cooperated this winter. We remained pretty saturated as we enter March, taking on another inch and a half of rain on Monday. It seems like every season we have it is either the wettest, the coldest, the hottest, the driest or some other adjective that doesn't make our job any easier. With 20 degree temperatures this weekend we won't be looking for much bermuda green up until the end of the month.

With the property soaked early in the week we finished off a few dry land projects. This back walk way was rejuvenated with some brick pavers. We also made a more accessible ramp for the sidewalk to the chipping green and then started getting down our spring mulch in the beds around the club.

The second right side fairway bunker on 9 was dug out first this week since it was close to the cartpath. The old drainage was removed and few new lines were added here. It was great to see the other fairway bunker on 9 take on that inch and a half of rain with no problems at all.

With the excavator in the larger bunkers, we have also split a crew into the smaller bunkers just using shovels. This is not easy work removing the old sand and drainage by hand but the staff continues to take ownership in vastly improving their bunkers.

The lake has showed itself in the middle bunker around 9 green. The new drainage system will help bring the floor of this bunker up slightly so that the sand can dry out.

We have full sun and full bunkers on 7 green!

We are 10 days away from dryjecting and core aerating the Sabot greens. Next Wednesday we plan to go ahead and deep solid tine the greens and get them firmed back up before the dryject and core aeration starts on the 15th. We had wanted to deep tine earlier in the winter but because of the frozen ground and wetness we have not been able to yet. The bentgrass is primed to start growing, we just need to get through this weekend of freezing cold temps. Don't forget about all the links on the home page of the blog that include a full schedule of cultural practices for the year.
