Cold early, beautiful weather this weekend

Our week again started off cold and wet. We went after another project on our "Monday list" which was knocking some curbs down behind the driving range tee. The curbs made it difficult to get a push cart up towards the tee so we we opened up 3 areas for better entrance and exit opportunities. The concrete curb was almost 10 inches in the ground which required a trip to Sunbelt for a jack hammer which is always enjoyable.

A row of 3 pavers were added in the main entrance spot and the turf was tied back in.

Two smaller areas were busted out towards the left hand side of the tee. We also stripped the sod along the entire curb and leveled that sod out nicely. A paver rectangle was also created underneath both water coolers in order to give a more finished look at the range.

Amazingly the Latitude on the Manakin is still holding green color after multiple mid 20 degree frosty nights. We have used no pigment and no paint this year and the playability is still excellent.

We have moved the bunker rakes out of the bunkers for the winter season. This takes out problems with the ball getting trapped on a rake and allows us to rake the bunkers easily. During the season when we are mowing the grass constantly we need them out of the way of the mowers and inside the bunkers.

Tree work has continued on the Sabot this week. We have been pruning the trees up and thinning out some trees to open up more views of the landscape. Here between 3 and 4 a few evergreens at the bottom of the hill were taken out and the result is impressive.

Grant got his small engine storage container dialed in. Most of these units used to be buried in the upper shop. Now they are out front where everyone drives by frequently making them easy to access.

The rain over the past weekend didn't allow us to get much drainage done this week. One dry spot we found was here at the bentgrass nursery. This area held a lot of water which didn't let our nursery thrive. New drainage and a blanket this winter will have the nursery ready to replace more Heron bombs on the greens this spring.

Enjoy the weather this weekend! Please remember to fix your ballmarks, spread out your cart traffic (and keep the robots out of wet areas!!) and fill your divots!
