We have been surviving the battle with the geese so far this winter. We have green star shower motion Christmas lights plugged into every irrigation box possible. The lights are pointed towards fairways and greens around the lakes. The lights turn on at dusk and immediately irritate any geese in range forcing them to fly over to Kinloch or somewhere better.

During the day the lights are useless so we just have to hustle around and make sure the geese at least stay in the water. Once we get them in the water the proboat goes to work. 30 mph of yellow fury heads towards the geese and they are up and out again. It is a constant battle and we are staying on top of it as much as possible.

The bluegrass enjoyed the warmer temps last week and is enduring the cold quite well this week. The color is great and we should have full turf cover in very short time this spring.

The frozen ground has helped yield plenty of tree work this week on the Sabot. We are finding plenty of older oaks that have a significant amount of rot in them. This tree was totally hollow in the middle, with only a few inches of outside trunk holding a seemingly healthy tree up. Not only are we improving turf and cartpath conditions, but we are eliminating serious safety hazards as well.

Our washpad area project was finished up Monday. We rented a jack hammer in order to install an overflow drain on a few sumps that were never hooked up properly. The crew is excited to have a much more functional area to help care for our equipment.

One more area we are trying to make more functional is up at the dump left of 1 Sabot. We are flattening things out and trying to clean up some logs and debris to make more room for the constant inflow of debris from both courses. The frozen ground has helped us gain a foot hold this week.

Julio is working his magic with some more pavers up on the side of the golf shop. On top of the pavers we are re-purposing the firepit from the back lawn to create a short knee wall. The wall will be accompanied by two foot brushes and two air hose guns for cleaning shoes off. This should be a convenient, attractive and functional addition!
