Cold snap coming, Carts on the Manakin are finished after Monday

The zebra stripes are out and more are on the way after this weekend. With lows in the 20's most of next week we will have to restrict cart traffic off the new bermudagrass on the Manakin after Monday. We will have both courses open at noon on Monday in case you want to squeeze in one more round in the 60's. The weather looks to be mild later on in the month but with consistent frosts. We can already see marginal injury on some of the Latitude from cart traffic in the early morning. Taking the precaution of restricting cart traffic for the winter will help ensure our product is ready to go for the spring.

With the Driving Range on the mats for the rest of the season we opted to cover the lower tee. This will help the bluegrass seed fill in some more and maybe let the bermuda finish recovering from divots.

The bluegrass on the Sabot continues to grow and fill in. We should have some nice color over here for the winter. So long as it is dry and we are not seeing any injury on the bluegrass, we will keep carts running over here. The vamont is going to go dormant quickly over the next week.

The crew knocked out a little more sodding this week. Behind 5 green Sabot was a mess of cool and warm season grass and weeds.

Overseeded Latitude36 sod was put down in this high traffic area behind 5.

On 12 Manakin we cut up the shaded area to the back right of the green. We also found an existing french drain that was covered with about 5 inches of mud. We cleaned the drain off and removed the contaminated gravel.

New sod is down along with an extended paver stone curb. With the new drain here and some fresh sod, we may be able to get the bermuda to grow back here in this corner.

Early in the week the crew got all the brush cut down along the lake by 18 green Sabot and the chipping green. What a view!

If someone knows how to make these oaks drop their leaves faster and in a more condensed window we would like to hear about it. The blowers and sweepers are out but with no growth on the turf we have to be careful about spreading wear while keeping the course clean. Good luck out there!
