We are greening up!

This past Friday we took some time during the Senior Member Guest to get moving on installing more perennial flowering plants around the Clubhouse grounds. The coreopsis for example that we placed around the putting green are deer resistant, put on a great flower all season and are very drought tolerant. As we move through the grounds around the club we will be aiming to make plantings more sustainable while reducing labor demands but increasing aesthetic impact.

Out on the Golf Course the bermudagrass is greening up nicely. You should be able to take notice how much faster the Latitude 36 sod around the Manakin greens is greening up versus the older bermudagrass on the Sabot.

The old common bermudagrass on the Manakin is also starting to slowly wake up. These weeds are what we are waiting for to get started with the full Latitude conversion. The common bermuda needs to be up and growing at full speed in order for the herbicide to have its full effect in eradicating the plant. Be sure to check out the two other pages here on the Blog that house a schedule for the Manakin project as well as a Powerpoint describing how the process will go.

We are spending a significant amount of time currently in getting the irrigation system dialed in. John Gibson and his team have been performing irrigation audits to all the greens on the property. The audit will tell us exactly how much water each green gets when irrigated with the sprinkler system.  Each green is a different shape and has a different sprinkler layout. The audit will make sure that anytime overhead irrigation is used, that the amount of water applied is consistent from green to green.

Over on #3 Sabot we have been working on draining the right side of the approach. We borrowed a mini excavator from across the street and went to work diverting the water that seeps out of this hill on the right down to the stream.

The area has dried up significantly already. We are finishing off filling up the trench today and hope to have some fresh sod out and get the area back looking respectable by early next week.
